Annual Conference, Wednesday 23rd to Sunday 27th June 2021

Lincoln Conference

Wednesday 23rd. – Sunday 27th June

The postponed 2020 Lincoln conference is now re-scheduled for Wednesday night 23rd – Sunday morning 27th June 2021. We have reserved accommodation at Bishop Grosseteste University.

The programme is expected to be largely unchanged from the notice in the Spring 2020 newsletter. We will stay at Bishop Grosseteste University where there is ample car parking. The university is a short taxi-ride from the station and buses connect it with the city centre. Many will choose to stay Wednesday night for the early start on Thursday morning. All main meals are included in the cost of the conference from Thursday breakfast to Sunday lunch, but you may be required to pay for the odd coffee and one light lunch. An inexpensive refectory supper may be available for those arriving on Wednesday evening at the university – not included in the price of the conference.

On Wednesday afternoon we plan an optional to visit to the family-owned Elizabethan Doddington Hall – just beyond the city’s western outskirts (not included in the cost of the conference). Doddington expects to have a cafe/restaurant open for lunch.

We will spend Thursday morning at the Castle and Lincoln Cathedral visiting the Wren Library and taking a roof tour; after lunch we visit the city galleries and later, a walk exploring the lower town.

On Friday, we travel by coach to Gainsborough Old Hall, Epworth Rectory, and after a pub lunch, a private visit to Scawby Hall.

Saturday takes us to the market town of Louth to view a collection of regional chairs, early 17th c. manor house and two vernacular cottages: the red-brick cottage of the late Mrs. Smith at Navenby, and a privately owned example of ‘mud and stud’. Lincolnshire has a many fine churches, many retaining medieval chests with Gothic tracery. We hope to be able to view a number of these on our travels, and include a church with mahogany gothic furnishings.

Sunday morning will be dedicated to the furniture surgery, departing the University after a buffet lunch.

Applications are only accepted from paid-up members of the RFS and their personal guests ( if space allows). See the booking form for details of conditions and prices. The form is available to download and print from this website. We will not bank your cheque until the conference is confirmed, so please note the instruction for dating your cheque to ensure it remains valid until finally banked. If the conference has to be cancelled you will be informed and your cheque shredded.
