Somerset Conference: Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th June 2022

The conference will be based at Bridgwater, easily reached by rail or coach.

Wednesday 22nd gives us an opportunity to visit Tyntesfield (NT) and Cleveden Court (NT) by our own transport and two or three churches nearby before arrival at the Ibis hotel Bridgwater where we stay for four nights.

Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th we travel westwards by coach to the Quantock Hills to visit a number of churches containing a unique group of carved 15th /16th century bench ends, fine screens and 17th century furniture. We also visit Orchard Wyndham and Dunster castle and, we hope, the collection of West Country vernacular furniture in Taunton Museum’s store.

On Saturday 25th, by coach we visit Wells Cathedral to explore the fascinating collection of built-in medieval furniture in areas not normally open to the public and the Bishop’s Place to see the famous turned chair and the ‘original’ Glastonbury chair.

In the afternoon we visit Crosscombe church with a spectacular 17th century interior and furniture, and then to John Betjeman’s  ‘Rip Van Winkle Church’.

We depart Bridgwater, late Sunday morning. Applications for a maximum of 30 RFS members close March 1st using the Conference Booking form. UPDATE: Please note that the Annual Conference is now fully booked.
